The German machine tool industry is bracing for a decline in production in 2024, as revealed by Franz-Xaver Bernhard, Chairman of the VDW, at their annual press conference in Frankfurt. Domestic regulations and bureaucratic challenges, especially for SMEs, add to the industry's challenges. In 2024, the German machine tool industry is expecting production to decline by almost 3 percent to 14.8 billion euros in nominal terms. “A nominal record volume of 17.0 billion euros was posted in 2018/2019, and five years later, there is still no sign of this figure being matched,” said Franz-Xaver Bernhard, Chairman of the VDW (German Machine Tool Builders’ Association), at the association’s annual press conference in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, on Monday.
There has been a clear slowdown in orders since the beginning of last year, which is now having an increasing impact on sales and production. The considerable order backlog, representing around eleven months’ work, had helped. However, nearly all supply bottlenecks have since been resolved, allowing the backlog to be worked through more quickly. Accordingly, orders on hand are less and less able to compensate for the lack of new orders. Overall, orders fell by ten percent in nominal terms in 2023. The decline was partly offset by several months of stronger project business. Domestic demand fell by 14 percent, almost twice as much as foreign demand. The global economy is unlikely to provide much impetus in 2024. The growth rates of both gross domestic product and investment are once again down on the previous year’s levels. The international purchasing managers’ index also highlights the weakness of the global economy in all key markets, particularly in the Eurozone and Germany. “In fact, we are currently seeing two divergent developments,” reported Bernhard. Growth sectors such as electric vehicles, wind power, medical technology, aerospace and defense boosted the project business in particular, while the standard machine business performed more weakly. Small and medium-sized customers such as job shop businesses are uncertain about the future and are reluctant to invest. Machine purchases are also more difficult to finance due to higher interest rates. Companies that prepared for the transformation process at an early stage are therefore better able to weather the weak demand. Promoting a Circular Economy: How the LS600 Shredder Contributes to Sustainable Plastic Production1/3/2024 In the realm of plastic recycling, a critical process involves the shredding of plastic lumps, which are by-products typically formed during the extrusion of plastics. These lumps, often referred to as "purges," represent a significant economic challenge due to the high costs associated with their disposal. However, recycling these materials offers an opportunity to reintegrate production waste back into the manufacturing cycle, reducing the reliance on new resources and promoting a more sustainable approach to plastic production. The process of recycling not only aids in cutting down environmental pollution but also helps in decreasing the overall production expenses by utilizing the scrap material effectively. The LS600 plastic shredder, designed and manufactured by Aceretech, one of China's top plastic recycling machine manufacturers, showcases distinct features tailored for the efficient recycling of plastic lumps and films. This machine is particularly adept at processing waste plastic materials, ranging from lumps generated in injection or extrusion processes to a variety of plastic products such as pipes, bottles, containers, and even the casings of household appliances. The LS600 combines shredding and crushing functionalities: the upper section is dedicated to coarse shredding, while the lower part is equipped for fine crushing, producing particles of 8-12mm. The shredder component is akin to a single-shaft shredder, whereas the crusher includes either multi-claw or flat blades, depending on the material properties. The entire apparatus comprises a feeding hopper, a shredding chamber with a rotor and blades, a hydraulic system, a crushing chamber, dual drive systems, a cyclone silo, and a control cabinet, all engineered to maximize efficiency and ease of use. In conclusion, the LS600 plastic lumps shredder machine stands out as a versatile and effective solution for recycling plastic lumps and films. Its dual shredding and crushing capabilities ensure that plastic waste is processed into small particles, ready for reintegration into production streams, thereby fostering a circular economy within the plastics industry. The design and functionality of the LS600 reflect Aceretech's commitment to providing high-quality recycling machinery that not only meets the needs of plastic manufacturers but also contributes to environmental sustainability by reducing the amount of plastic waste that would otherwise contribute to pollution and resource depletion.
