The company’s Toshiba Machine (Chennai) Pvt. Ltd. subsidiary plans to expand its capacity in Chennai from about 800 molding machines to more than 1,000 a year, a Toshiba executive said at the Indplas 2015 show, held Nov. 27-30 in Kolkata.
“The expansion would be carried out over the next three years,” said Girish Handigol, head of plastics processing marketing in Chennai. The company plans to expand factory floor space and is considering buying additional land. It also said it wants to bring in a wider range of products to India from its international portfolio, including two platen machines and other technologies. “We will also launch energy efficient and economical range as per the market requirements including auxiliary systems,” Handigol said. He said Toshiba has been growing about 15 percent a year in the country, which he said is above the industry average of 10 percent. The company also said it would help it prepare for intensified competition as the Indian government lowers anti-dumping duties on Chinese-made presses below 1,000 tons clamping force.
